FAQ – Salvadon Canyon
➡️ What level do you really need for the Salvadon Canyon?
The Salvadon is not a canyon for fit beginners — it's a canyon for confirmed canyoners. You need to be able to manage your own abseil independently, be fully comfortable on a rope, and have excellent physical fitness. If you have never done canyoning before, or if your only experience is Balme or Nyon, the Salvadon is not the right choice. Build up your experience on the sporty canyons first.
➡️ What makes the Salvadon exceptional among Haute-Savoie canyons?
It's the verticality. Around thirty abseils in a row, some reaching 50 metres, in a wild gorge above Samoëns. Very few canyons in Haute-Savoie offer this density of large vertical drops in such a preserved environment. It's a full day of technical commitment, far from standard routes.
➡️ How long does the outing last and what is the logistics?
Allow around 5 hours of descent, plus 1 hour of approach and 10 minutes back. The meeting point is at 8:15 am at the Samoëns tourist office square, from where the group carpools to the canyon start. This is a full day out — plan accordingly.
➡️ What is the price for the Salvadon Canyon?
€120 per person, equipment included (wetsuit, harness, helmet, descender). The group is limited to 4 to 6 people maximum to ensure safety and quality supervision on the large vertical sections.
➡️ When can you do the Salvadon Canyon?
The season depends on conditions: the Salvadon is best done after rainfall or after snowmelt, when the flow is sufficient to make the abseils worthwhile. It is not a fixed-date canyon — contact the guide to check current conditions before booking.
➡️ Is the Salvadon Canyon suitable for hen parties or corporate groups?
No. The Salvadon is a technically demanding canyon that requires real rope skills. It is not suitable for mixed groups without prior canyoning experience. For hen parties, stag dos or corporate outings, the sporty canyons (Balme, Nyon, Bronze) are much better suited.
